Siroua TREK

Day 1: Marrakech

Welcome to Marrakech, the town where the Arab culture of the cities meets the Berber culture of the mountain villages; where the weary sub-Saharan traders (carrying gold, salt and slaves) would ply their wares to the merchants who took them to Europe. This evening you will meet fellow travellers and tour leader (mountain guide), who will brief you on the next few days of your journey.

Day 2: Marrakech – Tizi n’tichka pass– Tamalakoute:

Early morning departure from Marrakech south in our 4WD through the Glaoua countryside and up through exhilarating hairpin bends into the Western High Atlas mountains and Aït Ourir Taddert (1650m) to alight at the peak of the Tizi n'Tichka (2260m) so as to take in the vista offered by the Jbel Toubkal - at 4167m the highest peak in the Maghreb - Jbel Siroua (3304m), and the second highest peak in the Maghreb - Ighil M'Goun (4071m) - the Plains of Jbilit and Tidili and of distant Ouarzazate. Then we bifurcate westward to approach the Siroua. Welcome in the village of Tamelakoute (altitude 1700m) while our team of multeers prepares our first camp, small hike shaping our legs on heights of the village.

Day 3: Tamalakoute – Ait Tigga:

We meet up with the mules and leave in the direction of Aït Tigga crossing through a rocky lunar landscape, a dissected plateau with a wide range of volcanic features, including numerous craters and lava plugs. We set up camp just before Aït Tigga (2000 m).
4 hours walking.

Day 4: Ait Tigga – Ait Igmour – Anougmar pass (2700m) – Assif n’Oussem :

We cross Aït Tigga,  Idoughagh and by the track we hike up the valley in the middle of terraced barley fields until the village of Ait Igmour(2100 m), overshadowed by the Agadirs. We go up the pass (2700 m) a collar of Anougmar, and then going down sheepfolds of Azib Oussem (2200m), then to the Assif Mdist. Camp.
5 hours walking.

Day 5: Assif n’Oussem – J’bel Siroua (3304m) – Azib n’Iriri:

We are now in the heart of the Siroua mountain system, where streams have cut through rocks, gouging out canyons. The peaks seem to stretch away forever. We set up camp at the foot of Siroua an ancient volcanic massif which joins the High Atlas Mountains with the Anti-Atlas.
Ascent of Jbel Siroua (3305 m) giving a superb view out over all the Atlas Range.  Siroua is located about 30 miles (50 km) southeast of Toubkal. Pleasant bivouac on terraces of sheepfolds of Azib n’Iriri (2400m)
6 hours walking.

Day 6: Azib n’Iriri – Valley of Aziouane:

A small collar succession by a trail that snakes through dull of rocks driven us to sheepfolds of Aziwane. Pleasant picnic on the vast grassy grazing, then continuation along cliffs granitiqueses of Amzdour, until the basaltic circus of Aziwane (the " Paradise ").
Return back to the camp close to sheepfolds.
5 hours walking.

Day 7: Aziouane – Tachakouchte…Marrakech:

Early beautiful hike on trays until the old souk of Tachakoucht. A last tea mint and a pathetic adieu with our nice team of multeers before getting in our 4x4 that will drive us to Marrakech (240 Km). Pause restoration on the road.
Arrive to Marrakech in end of afternoon. Installation at the hotel. Dinner.
2 at 3 hours walking.

Day 8: Departure transfer Marrakech airport.
