Trek Toubkal Morocco

Day 01: Marrakech Airport - hotel:

Arriving to Marrakech and visit the city... Tonight, visit Jemaa el Fna, one of the largest open plazas in the world and unique to Marrakech. Every night it comes alive with snake-charmers, musicians, story-tellers, fire-eaters and hundreds of small outdoor restaurants.

Day 02: Marrakech – Oukaimeden (2600m) – Tacheddirt (2300m):

Early morning departure from Marrakech for a pleasant drive way up into the foothills of the Western High Atlas ranges, and arrive to Oukaimeden (2600m) to approach the high Atlas mountains from the north.
Arrive to Oukaimeden, meeting with team of muleteers, loading up the luggage and start our trekking toward Tacheddirt (2300m), while passing by a trail Assif Ait Irene that leads us to the village of Tacheddirt where we’ll find a hut with lush pasture: trees of walnut, the corn…
Tacheddirt is characterized by terraced fields. To reach Tacheddirt, we have to cross the peak of Tizi N-Addi (2960m).
Picnic lunch on the road.
Overnight in Tacheddirt under tent.
03h walking.
Going up : 360m
Coming down : 660m

Day 03: Tacheddirt to Azib Likemt (2600m):

Crossing the valley we begin a long, slow ascent to the pass at Tizi Likemt (3555m). The going is quite tough as there is a considerable amount of loose scree on the ground. At the top we enjoy our first fine view of the Toubkal massif before a long downhill descent to the village of Azib Likemt, where we camp for the night.
06 hours trekking

Day 04 : Azib Likemt (2300m) / Amsouzerte ( 1800m) :

Still heading southwards, we follow the stream known as the Assif Tionzart, upstream. Initially, this is a narrow and quite rocky valley, with the stream passing through a series of pools and gorges. As the valley opens out we reach a delightful high meadow, beneath the windy peak of Tizi-n-Ourain (3109m). From the peak, far below us, we can see the green valley of the Assif Tizgui and beyond this, to the west, is the massive summit of Toubkal. Dropping down steadily, we pass through several small villages and finally arrive at the valley floor.
This long, but relatively easy, day takes us through a variety of contrasting landscapes. From Tizi n'Ououraine (3120m) we enjoy further views of the Toubkal massif, including the summit, the east face and the Ifni Dome (3876m). The trail leads on towards Amsouzert, one of the most striking villages in the region, where we spend the night - dormitory-style - in a simple village Gite.
5-6 hours Trekking.

Day 05: Amsouzerte (1800m) / Lac d’ifni (2312 m) / Tizi N’Ouanoumss (3250m):

West of Amsouzert are several small villages, which we explore as we make our way towards Ifni Lake, the only lake in the massif. It is a memorable sight, surrounded by rocky mountains and giant heaps of rubble, and is unusually deep. We expect to arrive by lunchtime
After noon, continuation to the foot of the peak of Tizi Ouanoumss (3250 ms). Above the lake, we follow the upper valley of the Assif a Moursaine, heading ever upwards to one of the most spectacular pass crossing in the Atlas.
5H walking. Overnight under tents.

Day 06: Tizi N’Ouanoumss (3250m) / Neltner Hut (3207 m).

By now we should be both fit and acclimatised, and ready to tackle the hardest day of the trek. We make our way along a steep path that leads up a seemingly endless scree slope. The Tizi-n-ouanoumss is at an altitude of 3650 metres situated between the tow highest peaks in the Atlas: Toubkal and Ouanoukrim. From here it is a long zigzag descent to Nelter Hut, a mountain refuge where we spend the night (or alternatively camp outside).
5-6 hours trekking

Day 07 : Refuge of Toubkal (3207 m) – Toubkal Summit (4167m) - Sidi Shamharoush (2310m) – Imlil (1700m) - Marrakech:

A long day for those who choose to make an ascent of Jbel Toubkal (4167m). North Africa’s highest peak. After an early breakfast, we set off on the steep ascent. Our route eastwards, directly above the hut across screed and boulders, before passing between two rocky guardian peaks to reach a high corrie which usually holds patches of old snow. After 3 hours climbing wd reach the peak. There are good views of the peaks of the Anti Atlas and the Sahara to the south. We descent to the hut in 2 hours and come down to the village of Imlil (1700m) via the holy hamlet of Sidi Chamharoush (2310m).
Picnic lunch on the road. Arrive to Imlil where we find our vehicle waiting us for a drive of 70 Km in tarred road toward Marrakech.
Overnight at the hotel in Marrakech
7 hours trekking

Day 08: departure transfer Marrakech airport.
